What's the Story? James Coffee ( Ed Helms ), a bumbling police officer (in fact, the laughingstock of his precinct), is in love with Vanessa Manning ( Taraji P. Henson) in COFFEE & KAREEM. The only thing standing between them is Vanessa's son, Kareem (Terrence Little Gardenhigh). At 12, Kareem is incorrigible.

Coffee and Kareem was already more than I was entirely prepared to watch, and this is just some terrible icing on that tire fire. They have a great deal in common: excessive profanity, irritating character writing, and a very specific focus on cell phones as evidence in murder investigations.

Parents need to know that Parental Guidance is a mostly kid-friendly family comedy about the tension between grandparents' old-style parenting and their daughter and son-in-law's Type-A helicopter parenting. There's some rude and scatological humor -- e.g. "poopy head," "fartie Artie," a grandfather being hit in the testicles with a baseball bat, and a man vomiting on a child.
